Top Bluetooth Wireless Headsets

Bluetooth headsets make up one of the fastest wireless markets here in the US and around the world. Headsets with Bluetooth wireless technology are capable of working with a variety of other Bluetooth enabled devices such as cell phones, PDAs, and digital music devices (like the iPod). Unlike conventional headsets, Bluetooth headsets do not require wires of any sort, but rather receive information from your portable device through 2.4GHz radio waves. The range of communication for most headsets is somewhere around 10 feet, which is usually plenty long.

Not surprisingly, there are a wide variety of Bluetooth headsets out there, and it really comes down to tastes in styles and preferred features as to which one is right for you. You'll want to make sure, for instance, that your Bluetooth device - whether it be an iPod, laptop, or PDA - will work with your chosen headphones. Here we list below some of the most popular Bluetooth headsets and their relevent features.

Logitech Mobile Bluetooth Headset

Logitech's Bluetooth headset is a real competitor in the market. It is a solid product with a dependable brand name, fully capable of providing sound connection between your cell phone and the headset. The device is entirely compatible with most major Bluetooth phones, but you may have to look into its compatibility with other devices. Like most headsets, the device can clip easily to either ear. It comes with an adjustable, swing-out boom that includes a noise-blocking microphone. The battery unit is rechargeable and is capable of giving you about 7 hours of talk time.

Motorola Bluetooth Headsets

Motorola currently has two stylish Bluetooth headsets on the market: the HS810 and HS820, and one soon to be released: the HS850. The HS810 and HS820 are very similar in style and shape.

Both devices are, of course, Bluetooth enabled and can thereby communicate with Bluetooth 1.1 compliant devices, including handsets, PDAs and computers. The device is compatible with the Motorola V600 and V710 phones. The HS810 and HS820 both weigh about 20 grams, and the HS820 has a slightly longer talk time range of 6 hours, compared with the HS810's 5 hours max. They both can run on standby for 100 hours. The HS820 has the ability to communicate with your phone up to 33 feet away, and is equipped with a couple nice features: conference call and voice dialing. The HS810 sells for $99.00 and the HS820 for $79.00.

Information concerning the newest headset by Motorola, the HS850, has just recently been released. Those lucky enough to have tested and reviewed this device have, so far, given it high marks. Like it predecessors, the HS850 has a simple yet attractive design. The main casing is black, with silver around the control area (image below). One of the more innovative features of this device is the flip-on connection system that enables the headset to connect with your phone as soon as you flip it open.

Jabra FreeSpeak Bluetooth Headsets

Jabra, a leading provider of hands-free communication devices is optimistic about its newest headset the Jabra FreeSpeak FS258 released recently in Malaysia. Weighing only 23 grams, the FS258 is the lightest behind-the-ear device produced by Jabra. The company is encouraged by a new trend in the US towards banning the use of cell phones while driving is some states, such as New Jersey.

Bluetooth Printer

In the last decade, the Bluetooth technology has grown tremendously. This growth has led the companies to develop more and more Bluetooth enabled devices. These Bluetooth devices started with the Bluetooth mobiles, the Bluetooth enabled computers, followed by various accessories like speakers, headsets, mouse, keyboard and then the printer.

The Bluetooth printer is developed mainly to make the life easier. There is no geographical restriction for you with these printers. You can place your printer in the next room or next floor or even in the next building according to your wish. Only thing you need to do is that you should buy the Bluetooth printer with such a power range to suit you.

If you already own an old printer, you need not buy a new Bluetooth enabled printer. You can simply add a Bluetooth adapter to make your printer Bluetooth enabled. With these printers, you can share a single printer for the whole office premises without using wires. So it saves the money that are usually spent on the extra printers or complicated LAN connection.

Bluetooth printer adapters are best suited for the small businesses as they do not use more computers. These printers also possess some limitations with the coverage area. Usually the coverage area ranges between 30 feet to 300 feet depending on the type of hardware used. So you need to place the printer with this distance to ensure proper functioning of your printer.

Another advantage of the Bluetooth enabled printer is that you can use even your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone to print the documents and images without connecting to a computer. On the other side, if multiple users access the printer at the same instant, the printer gets hampered and gets slow. So you need to allocate time for the users to access the printer independently or should follow some other system to ensure proper functioning.

Also, if the printer is set in the discoverable mode, there is a possibility of hackers to hack the system and also to get access to your confidential data. So it is your own risk to use the Bluetooth printer.

The author is an expert in the field of electronics. He feels that the Bluetooth printer is a great accessory to save your money but still you should consider the data security before buying.

Bluetooth Basics - Bluetooth Technology Tutorial

Bluetooth Basics

Bluetooth technology is nothing new, but in many respects it still seems to be more of a buzz word rather than a well understood, commonly accepted technology. You see advertisements for Bluetooth enabled cell phones, PDAs, and laptops, and a search of the Geeks.com website shows all sorts of different devices taking advantage of this wireless standard. But, what is it?

History

Before getting into the technology, the word Bluetooth is intriguing all on its own, and deserves a look. The term is far less high tech than you might imagine, and finds its roots in European history. The King of Denmark from 940 to 981 was renowned for his ability to help people communicate, his name (in English)... Harald Bluetooth. Perhaps a bit obscure, but the reference is appropriate for a wireless communications standard.

Another item worth investigating is the Bluetooth logo. Based on characters from the runic alphabet (used in ancient Denmark), it was chosen as it appears to be the combination of the English letter B and an asterisk.

Capabilities

The FAQ on the Bluetooth.org (https://www.bluetooth.org/) website offers a basic definition: "Bluetooth wireless technology is a worldwide specification for a small-form factor, low-cost radio solution that provides links between mobile computers, mobile phones, other portable handheld devices, and connectivity to the Internet."

Just like 802.11 b/g wireless networking systems and many cordless telephones, Bluetooth devices operate on 2.4 GHz radio signals. That band seems to be getting a bit crowded, and interference between devices may be difficult to avoid. Telephones are now being offered on the 5.8 GHz band to help remedy this, and Bluetooth has taken its own steps to reduce interference and improve transmission quality. Version 1.1 of the Bluetooth standard greatly reduces interference issues, but requires completely different hardware from the original 1.0C standard, thus eliminating any chance of backwards compatibility.

The typical specifications of Bluetooth indicate a maximum transfer rate of 723 kbps and a range of 20-100 meters (65 to 328 feet - depending on the class of the device). This speed is a fraction of that offered by 802.11 b or g wireless standards, so it is obvious that Bluetooth doesn't pose a threat to replace your wireless network. Although it is very similar to 802.11 in many ways, Bluetooth was never intended to be a networking standard, but does have many practical applications.

Practical Applications

There are a variety of products that take advantage of Bluetooth's capabilities, from laptops and PDAs, to headphones and input devices, and even wireless printer adapters.

Many Laptops include an onboard Bluetooth adaptor to allow the system to connect to any Bluetooth device right out of the box. For laptop or desktop systems that do not have an adaptor built in, there are many USB Bluetooth adaptors available.

Bluetooth enabled PDAs allow for convenient wireless synchronization and data transfer.

Headphones can take advantage of Bluetooth for two purposes... audio playback and mobile phone communications. Using something a mobile headset with a Bluetooth enabled mobile phone allows anyone to go hands free, as well as wire free.

Logitech, and other manufacturers, also produce input devices that eliminate wires thanks to Bluetooth. You can add a Bluetooth mouse to your system, or both a mouse and keyboard. One advantage that Bluetooth wireless keyboard/mouse combinations have over the standard RF wireless keyboard/mouse combinations is range. Where most standard RF keyboard/mouse combinations have a range up to 6 feet; a Bluetooth keyboard/mouse combination will usually have a range of up to 30 feet.

Bluetooth printer adaptors make sharing a printer extremely convenient by eliminating the need for any wires or special configurations on a typical network. Printing to any compatible HP printer from a PC, PDA or mobile phone can now be done easily from anywhere in the office.

Final Words

At this point the popularity of Bluetooth might not be as large as some proponents would have hoped, but many devices are available for those interested. The cost and competition from other standards have hindered the widespread acceptance, but Bluetooth does offer a viable solution to many devices that might not have wireless connectivity without it.

A Brief Introduction To Bluetooth

Bluetooth was designed to allow low bandwidth wireless

connections to become easy to use so even those who

are new to wireless can use them. Version one.One of

Bluetooth describes a low power, short range wireless

networking technology that uses radio waves to send

data at rates up to 720 kilobits a second.

Bluetooth Spec

The specification for Bluetooth supplies for different

classes of radio that allow transmission ranges of

up to 100 meters by boosting the radio power. The

technology of Bluetooth isn't limited to line of

sight transmission since it uses directional waves

that are capable of transmitting through many

obstructions.

Industry Standard

Bluetooth is an industry standard communication of

wireless, meaning that it enables the connection

of other devices as well, such as cell phones,

computers, digital cameras, & other types of

electronic devices. The specification of Bluetooth

defines a radio system and a "stack" of protocol

layers and profiles. The highest layer is the

application layer, while the lowest layer is the

radio.

The wireless technology of Bluetooth is positioned

to revolutionize the personal connectivity market

by providing freedom from inconvenient fixed type

lines.

The specification for Bluetooth eliminates the need

cell phones, and other electronics. Bluetooth

also allows users to connect many ranges of devices

fast and easily and expands communications

capabilities as well.

The size of the Bluetooth radio is remarkable, as a

Bluetooth radio can be built into 1 or two very

small microchips then integrated into any electronic

device where wireless operations would be an

advantage.

Bluetooth also offers a robust link, which ensures

that normal operating circumstances are not

interrupted by interference from other signals

that are operating in the same frequency band.

Also known for its worldwide operation, Bluetooth

radio operates in the 2.four GHz frequency band, which

is license free and reachable to any type of

radio system in the world. No matter where you

are in the world, you count on Bluetooth to work.

Security is also important. Offering advanced

security mechanisms, Bluetooth ensures a high level

of security. Therefore, authentification will

prevent unauthorized acess to important data and

make it very difficult to listen in.

Bluetooth also boasts power optimization. The radio

Bluetooth Advertising - How Does it Work?

Bluetooth marketing is the advertising of a product or service through a wireless medium that targets the audience through the mobile phone network. Text messaging, video clips or images are used to display advertisements that are then viewed by the mobile phone user. All Bluetooth enabled mobile phones within an accessible area are the recipients of these advertisements that are sent by various businesses. Bluetooth advertising is a convenient, quick and an inexpensive method of marketing a business.

The Bluetooth marketing strategy is to target a larger consumer base that includes both domestic as well as international consumers. Whether it is an online or an offline business, Bluetooth advertising can be of great significance to the company advertising itself. A couple of years back, Bluetooth marketing was not so popular, but it is being raved about as being one of the best techniques of advertising today. Bluetooth marketing is being looked upon by businesses to increase their general sales as well as mark their identity.

If you are a company that wants to advertise your business, you can do so through various Bluetooth service providers. These providers on receiving your advertising campaign will locate all Bluetooth devices in the area and send an invitation to the recipient, to review this campaign. The mobile handset owner has the right to accept or decline the invitation. If the user agrees to receive the message, the advertisement is forwarded to their mobile phone. However, if the consumer declines the offer, the advertisement will not be sent to their mobile phone.

Proximity advertising also gives mobile phone users several benefits, as they can place orders for many utility or home products right through their mobile phone instead of hunting for things in the market. They can also find lucrative offers that they might want to avail themselves of. Apart from this they might receive intimations from their television network provider, giving details of an upcoming programme that they might like to watch. In Britain, Bluetooth advertising is being utilised on a large scale with train stations being used to target passengers carrying Bluetooth technology mobile phones.

The innovative Bluetooth advertising has become an ideal marketing tool and is being favoured by companies across the globe, to increase sales and boost their image. Bluetooth advertising is cheaper than other forms of advertising and is far more effective too. Hence marketing a business through wireless Bluetooth advertising has become an ideal choice today.

Setting Up the Bluetooth Headset

A wireless application which can be utilized in swapping information within a short distance between two cell phones is what the Bluetooth is all about. It can also be described as sharing data like music, pictures and other files within a short range distance. Even components and computers nowadays have this Bluetooth detection gadget.

Another important wireless mobile device is the headset which is connected to the original handset via Bluetooth. This device is placed in the ear making no excuses of not receiving phone calls for the reason that you are driving or on the road. Calls which were received while in motion can be directly connected via the headset by using the Bluetooth application.

Connecting the Bluetooth with the Headset Gadget

First, you need to examine if your mobile has the Bluetooth application. Connecting the Bluetooth headset to a mobile phone is different depending on the mobile provider. By going to the mobile tools option you can facilitate the universal configuration. Going to the tools menu, click the settings option to choose the connection selection. Under the connection selections, you will see the word 'Bluetooth'. To make this work, all you need to do is click the word 'Enable' or 'On". Make sure that the headset is turned on in order for the Bluetooth to mechanically identify the device.

If this won't work, then you need to set it up manually. Go to the device selection listed under Bluetooth, and click the 'search for device selection'. In doing this, all possible paired gadgets within the range will be searched by the Bluetooth. Select the headset gadget from the listing and click connect. Some cell phones require you to key in the PIN or password. Remember that the default password is 0000, whichis applicable to most of the mobile phones.

Read the user manual or ask the customer sales representative if you have no idea on how to operate a Bluetooth head from the time you bought it. The connection linking the Bluetooth headset with the phone can be made by pairing the devices. You also need to make sure that both units, phone and headset, are charged fully. In the event that the Bluetooth device cannot be identified, check if the Bluetooth option is turned on.

Once you have done the above procedure, make a test call to make sure that it is working appropriately. Connection should be achieved within a short period of time considering the fact that the method is not that complicated. The market offers a variety of Bluetooth headsets which come in varied sizes and shapes. You will find that this gadget is very advantageous for people who are always travelling. The gadget is ready to be connected via the Bluetooth by merely pressing the small button on the headset. Double check if the headset device was correctly chosen for the Bluetooth connection. Having a mobile phone can bring in a lot of fun but with the headsets, you will be more amazed as you only need to put it in your ear and you can loosen listening to music or get the most of your conversation with your loved one.

Advantages of the Bluetooth Technology in Wireless Communication

The advent of recent local and state legislations requiring the use of hands-free devices only while driving has increased the market of Bluetooth headsets among cellular phone users. Bluetooth interface can now be found in a wide range of cellular phone models.

But for more than just hands-free mobile phone convenience, Bluetooth technology is becoming a popular way to stay connected wirelessly. This enables you to connect to the internet, share or transfer files, stream music and a lot more.

Bluetooth technology allows two devices to communicate and interact with each other over a 2.4 GHz low-frequency waves range. A standard Bluetooth headset's range is 10 meters but this can actually be extended to over a mile with the appropriate device.

Unlike infrared, devices connected via Bluetooth do not have to be in direct line or too close to each other. This allows for a wider distance between the interacting devices. You can snap a photo on your mobile phone and print it out directly on a regular Bluetooth printer.

Use wireless keyboards on multiple devices. Listen to your favorite music on a Bluetooth headset straight from your mobile phone's mp3 player. Now, even vehicles are equipped with this technology to allow you to interact with other devices via your vehicle's audio system.

Bluetooth headsets work well with various accessories like Bluetooth adapters, antenna, car kit, card drive and dongle.

Bluetooth adapters turn your desktop or wired notebooks into wireless devices by plugging in a adapter onto your PC or laptop's USB port. This enhances whatever existing hardware you use with wireless connectivity and enables it to communicate or interact with other Bluetooth products like mobile phones and PDAs.

The Bluetooth antenna increases the range of Bluetooth devices to over a mile, depending on the make and model.

Some Bluetooth car kits include a speaker phone with TTS (text to speech) capabilities. Supporting both handset and hands-free profiles, these can be paired with multiple devices. With built-in microphones and speakers, these Bluetooth car phones have an integrated echo cancellation and noise suppression systems.

The Bluetooth card drive is designed for both Bluetooth functionality and card reader or flash memory drive. This device accessory deploys this capabilities into your laptops, desktops, or Tablet PCs.

The Bluetooth Dongle operates in a range of up to 100 meters. This accessory sometimes comes with a built-in antenna. Handy and stores easily, this accessory improves communication between your devices.

There are other devices and accessories you might find useful and the list continues to grow as manufacturers seek to improve the quality of current Bluetooth technology.

Setting up your Bluetooth headphones to work with Windows XP is a breeze. But, why do it in the first place? One very good reason is that of wireless control. With Bluetooth headsets, you can discard your wired speakers and wired microphones. This wireless mobility is very handy when you use your headphone for many applications--both online and offline--that make use of audio and video. For example, making VoIP (or Voice over Internet Protocol) calls, audio-video chat sessions, video games that allow you to interact with other players using audio and video, speech recognition, audio recording, listening to music and other audio, and a whole lot more.

If you want to set up your Bluetooth headset to work with Windows XP, just the very easy steps described below.

Open Control Panel. The Control Panel is the place where you can set many options related to your computer and the programs installed. On the Control Panel Window, look for the item named Bluetooth Devices. It is usually represented with an icon that looks like a letter "B" on top of a blue oval. Double-click on Bluetooth Devices.

Next, you are going to make sure that your computer automatically detects Bluetooth devices that come within its range. To be able to do that, you need to turn on the automatic discovery option. Here's how to accomplish that: When you double-click on Bluetooth Devices in Control Panel, a dialog window will open. Open the Options tab on that window, and make sure that the box beside the item "Turn discovery on" is checked. By default and as a security measure, this option is unchecked.

After that, you will give permission to any Bluetooth device within range to connect to your computer. To do that, make sure that there's a check mark on the box beside the label "Allow Bluetooth devices to connect to this computer." If you also want to make sure that your computer notifies you of any attempt from a device to connect via Bluetooth, make sure that the item labeled "Alert me when a new Bluetooth device wants to connect" is also checked. Then, save your settings by pressing on the Apply button, then the OK button.

Your computer is now ready to accept Bluetooth connections. Now, it's time to connect your headset to your computer. Turn on your headset. Your computer will automatically detect it, but you will need to add the device. On the lower right corner of your screen, right-click on the Bluetooth icon and select "Add device." An interactive dialog (called the Add Bluetooth Device Wizard) will pop up. Tell the wizard that your device is set up and ready to be found. Follow the onscreen instructions, including the portion where you enter the pass code or pass key. At the end of the wizard, your headset will have been successfully added to the list of Bluetooth devices.

Lastly, connect your device to your computer. This last step is very easy. Go to My Bluetooth Places, right-click on your Bluetooth headset's name, and choose "Connect Headset" from the pop-up menu. That's it. This last step is crucial for Bluetooth headphones to be completely functional with Windows XP. So, make sure you don't skip it.

Bluetooth Headphones Review: Sony DRBT101-WQ Stereo Bluetooth Headset

If you are looking for Bluetooth headphones that perfectly fuse wireless mobility and stereo quality for voice calls, the Sony DRBT101/WQ Stereo Bluetooth Headset is worth looking into. That is, if you won't mind wearing an over-the-head set.

There are several headband-type (also known as over-the-head type) of Bluetooth headphones on the market today. You can easily recognize them because their earpieces are joined by a headband, which goes over your head. That's how the headset stays in place. The earpieces cover your ears, thus keeping the sound in. The Sony DRBT101/WQ Stereo Bluetooth Headset is such a headphone, and more.

Wireless mobility and convenience are where the Sony DRBT101/WQ actually stands out from among the other Bluetooth headsets of its kind. Using Bluetooth's multipoint capability, the unit can bond or pair with several Bluetooth devices simultaneously. Thus, you won't need to unpair your movie player when a call comes in through your mobile phone. More than this, the unit has a wide range of support and compatibility for many Bluetooth devices such as mobile phones, iPod Touch, iMac, and MacBook Pro. It even works flawlessly with Skype.

A lot of people actually prefer the techie look of a headband-style Bluetooth headphone, but when they experience the features of the Sony DRBT101/WQ, they often shop no further. Although the stereo sound quality has been often described as lacking for the audiophile's discriminating ear, this device provides adequate quality overall sound with good bass levels. Often, this can be sufficient for everyday use.

This model is designed for use as a headband earphone, so it may not be a great choice for use when you need to make rigorous physical movements. For example, you can try to use it at the gym or while you are jogging around town, but expect it to slip off your head at some point. Headband sets just are not designed for such kinds of usage. And, neither will the Sony DRBT101/WQ even attempt to satisfy you in that area.

Another important feature that makes this model worth its price is the longevity of its battery power. Most Bluetooth headsets will give you only a few hours of talk or play time. Yet, the Sony DRBT101/WQ can provide you with battery power that can last, on the average, up to two days. This simply means less frequent recharge cycles for the battery.

In sum, the Sony DRBT101/WQ Stereo Bluetooth Headset is a great choice if you are looking for Bluetooth headphones that combine convenience, decent sound quality, and reasonable price.

Installing Device Drivers For Bluetooth Devices

We have all seen the futuristic and bulky earpieces sported by many cell phone users. Bluetooth is what enables these users to enjoy hands-free functionality, but how does it actually work? Bluetooth is a wirelessly technology that gives mobile devices the ability to interact over short distances via radio signals. The power of Bluetooth isn't limited to cell phone usage. The technology also works with computers and a wide range of peripheral devices. Some of the most common types of Bluetooth-enabled hardware include PDAs, printers and GPS devices.

Integrating Bluetooth with Your Computing

The best thing about Bluetooth is that it allows you to integrate various devices implemented with the technology. However, if want to use a Bluetooth-enabled device, such as a PDA on your PC, your computer must be equipped to handle the Bluetooth signal. More of the newer computers offer built-in support for the technology with Bluetooth adapters. If the network adapter isn't installed on your computer, you could integrate the Bluetooth devices with a dongle. A dongle is a small device that connects to the USB port and delivers the Bluetooth signal to your computer.

Installing the Appropriate Drivers

A special network adapter allows your computer to accept the Bluetooth reception. In order for your computer to recognize the hardware, you will need to install the appropriate device drivers. Whether you are using a network card or dongle, both devices should come included with an installation CD that contains the device drivers you need. Keep in mind that you will have to install the device drivers for each piece of Bluetooth hardware you want to use on your computer. Thus aside from the PDA, for example, you would also need the installation disc for your Bluetooth-enabled printer.

Troubleshooting Problematic Bluetooth Drivers

Just like all computer hardware, there may come a time when your Bluetooth devices endure problems or stop working entirely. This could happen for a number of reasons. Perhaps after installing a new Bluetooth device, the installation overwrites the drivers for an existing device.

Perhaps you uninstalled an application that removed critical files one of your other devices need. Other instances that could ruin your device drivers would be a system crash, an unexpected shutdown or failed hard drive. If you find that your Bluetooth devices are not working properly, the device drivers probably need to be updated.

While you can attempt to reinstall the device drivers from the installation CD, you may want to get the files directly from the manufacturer. This is especially true if the manufacturer has made improvements to enhance functionality.

There are two ways you can check for updates: visit the manufacturer's website online or perform an automatic search through Windows. To search from the operating system, open the "Control Panel" and select "Device Manager." Navigate the page, find your Bluetooth device, double-click it, and then lick the "Driver" tab. Next, click "Update Driver" and choose the option that performs an automatic search. If updates are found, simply follow the instructions and install the device drivers.

Tip: If you are using a Bluetooth printer, you must open the Control Panel and select "Printers." From this window, right-click on your printer, select "Properties," click the "Advanced" tab, select "New Driver" and follow the prompts for installing the appropriate driver.

Growing Demand For Bluetooth Technology

Bluetooth is a technology which is designed for data transmission via radio frequency at 2.45 GHz. On average, the operation range of this technology is 10-20 meters (33-66 feet). Furthermore, wireless Bluetooth technology can transmit data even through walls.

A group of companies, which started the development of this new data transfer standard, consisted of Ericsson, IBM, Intel, Nokia and Toshiba. While Bluetooth technology was originally designed for wireless connections used for notebooks, PCs and mobile phones, it soon became apparent that there are many other applications that can use the Bluetooth standard.

The immediate demand for Bluetooth technology was created by the need to connect various mobile devices and other devices without cables.

Another wireless technology, IrDA OBEX, based on infrared light, is limited due to the type of connection. IrDA provides connection only in a direct view zone, and only a "point to point" connection. Bluetooth, on the other hand, provides a mobile wireless access to LAN, Internet and other mobile networks, where the interface of the network can be easily moved. This technology does not require neither a "point to point" connection nor direct view zone. This not only makes its use easier, but also expands the area of its use.

Bluetooth can also be used in home networking applications. With an increasing number of home PCs, there is a growing demand in networks, which are easy to install and to maintain. The main focus of Bluetooth use is the creation of so-called personal networks, which can connect such diverse devices as mobile phones, PDAs, MP3 players, computers, and even microwave ovens and refrigerators.

The possibility of voice transfer allows embedding Bluetooth in wireless phones, or, for example, wireless headsets for cell phones.

Potential uses for Bluetooth are endless, including: synchronizing a PDA with the desktop computer, creating a wireless connection between a computer, keyboard and mouse, etc. In addition, the interface makes it easy and inexpensive to organize a home network. Moreover, virtually any needed devices may be connected into this network.

The main strength of Bluetooth is the ability to simultaneously handle data and voice transmission, allowing the use of numerous innovative solutions, such as Handsfree for cell phones, wireless printing, automatic synchronization of different devices, including PDA, laptop or a cell phone notebook.

All of this makes Bluetooth technology extremely useful and effective for transmitting information.

A couple disadvantages of Bluetooth are its low speed, and a rather small amount of transmitted information. Nevertheless, these minor disadvantages do not diminish popularity of the system. The advantages of this technology, including its inexpensiveness and ease of use, more than outweigh the drawbacks. In addition, developers keep further improving Bluetooth technology, making it more powerful and safer with each new version.

Bluetooth not only helps to overcome the limitations of wired networks, but also offers a variety of new services and new opportunities for its usage, creating an ever growing demand for this technology.

Cell Phone Law and the Hands-Free Bluetooth Solutions

Did you know that California will the 5th state (if you include District of Columbia) to pass the cell phone law? This will present a problem for most of us in California since we depend on it so much. The law was passed Fall of 2006 and will go into effect July 1, 2008. What exactly does the legislation entail? It prohibits the use of any hand-held mobile phones while driving. Drivers who are caught chatting away on their cellular phones will be fined $20 for the first offense and will receive $50 fines for any ensuing offense.

So what's the solution? Well, the law does give room for mobile phone chatters to use hands free kits when talking on the phone. However, older cell phones tend to lack Bluetooth technology and thus rely primarily on wired handsfree kits that come standard with the purchase of most phones.

Bluetooth Earpiece

This is probably the cheapest solution for most people. The earpiece is a simple headset that is usually placed over one ear, consisting of both the microphone and the earphone. It allows you to use it in and out of the vehicle, so you are free to go wherever you please while speaking wirelessly on the phone. Depending on its features and quality, you could find Bluetooth headsets for as cheap as $40 and as expensive as $200. The great thing about is its role as a standalone accessory. All you have to do is connect it (AKA "pair) with your Bluetooth capable mobile phone.

This hands-free device has a few disadvantages. These units contain small power cells that would need to be charged after about 6 to 8 hours of talk time. Additionally, some users complain that earpieces tend to be more uncomfortable over a long period of time. Some earpieces even give off a sort of echoing effect and could be hyper-sensitive to noise in certain road conditions. Of course, this complains may vary per brand and model-so be sure to try each one of them out, especially because there are a ton of companies now that make these.

Plug-N-Play Hands-Free Bluetooth Car Kit

These kits simply attaches to either the top of your dashboard, an air conditioning vent, or sometimes even your windshield. The plug'n'play Bluetooth kit is a device the size of your palm and usually gets power from your cigarette lighter. The palm-size kit contains both the microphone and a tiny loudspeaker. With this you don't have to attach anything to your ear and is often loud enough to hear, even through traffic noise.

The price range on these stay pretty consistent since there are not as many variations of this type of Bluetooth interface. As of early 2008, they cost anywhere from $55-$125. The disadvantage of plug and play kits, however, is its volume. Though they may be loud, there is no sense of privacy if you have other passengers in the vehicle. Another thing to keep in mind is the quality of the speakerphone built in the mounted kit. Some speakerphones tend to blare rather than sounding clear. This occurs when you overload a small speakerphone with a ton of volume, and this is quite common with this type of devices.

Some companies who sell plug-n-play Bluetooth car kits include Parrot, Clarion, and Raytel.

In-Dash Receiver with Bluetooth

Because of advancements in Bluetooth technology, car audio companies began integrating Bluetooth technology in standard head units. This allows Bluetooth cell phones to be paired with the Bluetooth ready headunit. A phone call would mute whatever music or radio is playing and would channel the call through your vehicle's sound system, resulting in the clearest sound from your phone. Depending on the kit, the microphone could be built in the headunit or wired (with hidden install of course) to the sunvisor. But just like the plug-n-play units, it offers no privacy since it could be heard by anyone in the vehicle.

This is probably the best solution for you if you are looking for a clean install without messy wires and if you feel uncomfortable putting something on your ear. It would also offer the best solution for you if you are looking for the best sound quality for a Bluetooth unit. If you want a built-in Bluetooth headunit, it will cost $200 or more. If you have an aftermarket stereo that is Bluetooth ready, you may just get the Bluetooth kit for that receiver. It is pricey though, costing you about $150 for just the Bluetooth interface.

A Cheap Bluetooth Headset - 3 Things You Should Know

The latest cheap Bluetooth headset is one of the hottest items on the market. Compared to first generation models, new headsets come with major improvements including design, technology and functionality.

This doesn't mean that you should pay the retail price when you can find a cheap Bluetooth headset that looks good and works excellently. All it takes is doing some browsing and research online. The price range usually goes from $30 to $300 for headsets. Before you go on your quest to finding a cheap Bluetooth headset that's right for you, here are a few things should know first.

1. How To Find an Awesome But Cheap Bluetooth Headset

You won't have much luck finding a rock star Bluetooth headset unless you know how to find one that also fits your budget. While it's not rocket science, it does take some time and effort on your part. The key to finding the best headset is comparing a few products. The following are some factors to consider:

Comfort: Bluetooth headsets are either held in place with a loop that goes around the ear or are actually placed into the ear. Each style has its own level of comfort and it is up to you to decide which you prefer. Those that are secured with a loop are generally more comfortable. You should also consider how long you will be wearing the headset in a given day.

Features: A cheap Bluetooth headset still comes with great features. It's important to consider the battery life, charging capabilities, sound quality, and the convenience of putting it on.

Compatibility: Most Bluetooth headsets are compatible with any cell phone brand. This makes them versatile and it opens up your options.

2. Cheap Bluetooth Headsets are Easy to Use

Because of simplicity, many inexpensive Bluetooth headsets are high quality and easy to use. Commands and controls such as transferring a call between your headset to your phone are easy to find and perform.

Adjusting the volume and turning on the headset are other issues that are very easy to use on a cheap Bluetooth headset. It's all straightforward. Fancy headsets full of high tech features are just too complicated for the simple act of receiving a phone call.

3. Bluetooth Technology is Inexpensive

It doesn't cost companies a lot of money to implement the technology needed for Bluetooth headsets. That means that you can find a simple and cheap Bluetooth headset that has the right technology. If you are paying hundreds of dollars for a headset, it doesn't mean it actually costs that much to produce it. It also doesn't mean it has great quality.

Above all, there is little evidence to prove that the more you spend on a headset, the better it is. As long as the headset has a good range, is comfortable to wear and is compatible with your phone, you will have a great time using it.

Bluetooth headsets have become a necessity for many people. They help eliminate the amount of radiation that goes into the brain and are much safer to use while driving. In fact, many countries and states have made it illegal to drive while using a cell phone.

A cheap Bluetooth headset is the affordable solution to these problems. By browsing your options and comparing features, you will find the right headset for your budget.
